Protecting the reef, one dive at a time.
FINS is a fully local Belizean crew working in the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve. We remove invasive lionfish, watch over nesting hawksbill turtles, and are bringing back the native king crab. You can come and be part of it.
What FINS is
One crew, one reef.
The same boats, the same local crew and the same waters of the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve carry all of our work. One trip out can remove lionfish, check on crab systems and support turtle monitoring.
Lionfish removal
Trained Belizean divers spearfish invasive lionfish, close to 1,000 pounds a month, and every fish gets used.
How it works
Sea turtles
Critically endangered hawksbills nest on the cayes of the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve. We protect the nests and are starting standardized monitoring.
The turtle workKing crab
A native grazer that eats the seaweed smothering coral. We're piloting Belize's first land-based crab nursery.
